Intramolecular Crosslinking of Helical Folds: A Novel Approach to Organic Nanotubes The tubular secondary structure of a folded helical polymer - a poly(m-phenylene ethynylene)

ثبت نشده
چکیده

The tubular secondary structure of a folded helical polymer a poly(m-phenylene ethynylene) derivative, synthesized via our A2+BB’ polycondensation method, is stabilized by intramolecular cross-linking of cinnamate moieties through topchemically controlled photodimerization. This approach should enable the generation of organic nanotubes with controlled dimensions and surface functionality that constitute attractive building blocks for functional nanostructures.

Optically active, amphiphilic poly(meta-phenylene ethynylene)s: synthesis, hydrogen-bonding enforced helix stability, and direct AFM observation of their helical structures.

Optically active, amphiphilic poly(meta-phenylene ethynylene)s (PPEa) bearing L- or D-alanine-derived oligo(ethylene glycol) side chains connected to the backbone via amide linkages were prepared by microwave-assisted polycondensation. PPEa's exhibited an intense Cotton effect in the π-conjugated main-chain chromophore regions in various polar and nonpolar organic solvents due to a predominantl...

Conjugated polymers containing 2,3-dialkoxybenzene and iptycene building blocks.

[structure: see text]. New poly(phenylene ethynylene)s (PPEs) and poly(phenylene vinylene)s (PPVs) that are highly emissive in solution and thin films were prepared utilizing palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling between new 1,4-diiodo-2,3-dialkoxybenzene- and iptycene-containing monomers. The absorption and emission spectra of the resulting polymers consistently showed a significant blue shift re...

Noncovalent Functionalization of Boron Nitride Nanotubes with Poly(p-phenylene-ethynylene)s and Polythiophene

Boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) are functionalized and solubilized in organic solvents such as chloroform, methylene chloride, and tetrahydrofuran by using conjugated poly(p-phenylene ethynylene)s (PPEs) (polymers A and B) and polythiophene (polymer C) via a noncovalent functionalization approach through strong π-π stacking interactions between the conjugated polymers and BNNTs. The functionali...

An amphiphilic poly(phenylene ethynylene) as the structure-directing agent for periodic nanoscale silica composite materials.

We have synthesized optically active nanostructured composite materials by using an amphiphilic semiconducting polymer, a poly(phenylene ethynylene) (PPE), and a conventional ammonium surfactant as the structure-directing agents. The PPE consists of phenylene units para-substituted with an octyloxy chain and a charged trimethylammoniumethoxy group, resulting in a surfactant-like structure that ...

Enhanced fluorescence quenching in receptor-containing conjugated polymers: a calix[4]arene-containing poly(phenylene ethynylene).

A fluorescent poly(phenylene ethynylene) containing calix[4]arene-based receptor units has a sensitivity to quenching by the N-methylquinolinium ion that is over three times larger than that seen in a control polymer lacking calix[4]arenes.
